Specializing in the condensed matter theory, we theoretically study the properties of various materials, including living organisms. In this department, research activities are performed based on quantum and statistical mechanics, adopting a broad range of techniques, as condensed matter is extensive. The methods and contents of our current research activities are outlined as follows: statistical mechanics-based studies, such as those to examine critical phenomena and universal algebraic curves in the renormalization group, exact calculations using algebraic geometry, and simulation analysis; and theoretical studies on biophysics to examine the dynamics and functional significance of molecular and cellular fluctuations based on statistical mechanics and nonlinear dynamics.
